NORWICH  - Norwich City Football Club has officially announced the appointment of former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere as their new first-team coach. Wilshere joins the Canaries from Arsenal, where he served as head coach for the Under-18 team. During his time at Arsenal, he was an iconic figure, making 197 senior appearances and contributing 14 goals, while also winning two FA Cups.

Wilshere's career began in Arsenal’s youth academy, where he quickly rose through the ranks. He made history during the 2008/09 Premier League season when manager Arsène Wenger handed him his debut against Blackburn Rovers at just 16, making him Arsenal's youngest-ever league debutant. Over the years, he enjoyed loan spells at Bolton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth before moving on to play for West Ham United and Danish club AGF, where he retired from professional football in 2022.

On the international stage, Wilshere earned 34 caps for England, scoring two goals.

Upon his retirement, Wilshere quickly transitioned into coaching, leading Arsenal’s Under-18 team to the final of the 2022/23 FA Youth Cup. His success as a youth coach has now paved the way for his first senior coaching role with Norwich City.

In a statement on the club’s website, Wilshere expressed his excitement: "I’m delighted to be joining Norwich City. It is a fantastic opportunity at a very impressive club, and one which has come at the right time to progress my coaching career within a first-team environment."

Wilshere praised the vision and plans of the club’s management, saying: "I’ve heard a lot about the environment around the club, and the facilities at the training centre are first class. I’m now really looking forward to working with the coaching staff and players and can’t wait to get going."

Norwich City’s Sporting Director, Ben Knapper, welcomed Wilshere, saying: "We are delighted to welcome Jack to Norwich City. His personality, knowledge, and experience will be huge assets for us. In our view, he is one of the brightest and most exciting young coaches in the country."

Wilshere’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter in his coaching career as Norwich City looks to benefit from his leadership, experience, and fresh ideas.
