The Ugandan secondary school sports teams set to represent the country at this year’s edition of the FEASSA Games have safely arrived in the Kenyan western city of Kakamega ahead of the competition’s kickoff on Thursday. A total of 66 secondary schools, 11 primary schools, and 3 special needs education teams arrived yesterday afternoon. They were received at Masinde Muliro University for the boys’ village and Sacred Heart for the girls’ village. The seemingly tired athletes will have a day to rest and recover before action begins on Thursday.

The 66 schools qualified after excelling in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association’s (USSSA) three national competitions — boys’ football, Ball Games I, Ball Games II, and the swimming gala. This marks the largest contingent Uganda has ever presented at the games, with 1,600 athletes from 124 teams.

Uganda will compete in 22 sports disciplines. Chess and Scrabble will make their debut at the 22-year-old games, while Lacrosse, beach soccer, cricket, dance sport, and beach volleyball will feature as demonstration sports, pending clearance for full competition in future editions.

This is the 22nd edition of the FEASSA Games and the first time they are being hosted in Kakamega. Uganda enters as the defending champions, having won the overall title in four consecutive competitions — 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
