Kazo District – Police in Kazo District are investigating a shocking case of murder and assault following the brutal killing of Kahembera Misach, a 57-year-old farmer and resident of Meru Meru Cell, Kataraza Parish, Nkungu Sub County. The incident occurred on the morning of February 5, 2025, at approximately 6:00 AM.
According to preliminary reports, the deceased was attacked at his home by his two biological sons, Mugabe Naboth, alias Yanga, and Nuwabiine Amos, who were accompanied by an unidentified third assailant. The trio was armed with pangas (machetes) and a hammer. They reportedly broke into Kahembera’s house and inflicted multiple cuts on him, causing severe bleeding that led to his death. After the attack, the assailants fled the scene and went into hiding. One suspect, Kyarikunda Olivia, has been arrested and is assisting police with their investigations. Authorities are working to apprehend the remaining suspects, who are still at large.
Longstanding family wrangles
Preliminary investigations reveal that the murder may be linked to longstanding family disputes. The deceased had reportedly been embroiled in conflicts with his family members, stemming from his decision to marry a second wife. Tragically, the second wife was allegedly murdered by Kahembera’s first wife and other sons, who are currently serving prison sentences for the crime. The recent attack on Kahembera appears to be a continuation of these violent family tensions. Police are exploring all possible motives and connections as part of their ongoing investigations.
Police appeal for information
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and urged the public to remain calm as investigations proceed. “We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and are committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice. We appeal to anyone with information that could assist in this investigation to come forward,” Kasasira stated. The body of the deceased has been taken to a nearby health facility for a postmortem examination as part of the investigative process.
Community in shock
The brutal nature of the attack has left the local community in shock. Neighbors and residents of Meru Meru Cell described Kahembera as a hardworking farmer who had been caught in a web of family conflicts for years. Many expressed sadness over the tragic turn of events and called for justice to be served.
“This is a heartbreaking situation. Family disputes should never lead to such violence. We hope the police will act swiftly to ensure those responsible face the full force of the law,” said a local resident who preferred to remain anonymous.

They have also increased patrols in the area to ensure the safety of residents and to prevent further incidents.
