Uganda Police Force has recovered an illegal AK-47 rifle and arrested a 26-year-old suspect in a successful intelligence-led operation in the Kyengera area.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from Nsangi and Kyengera arrested Kimbugwe Vincent, also known as Kasumali, in Massanda Cell, Kyengera Town Council.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of the AK-47 rifle, which was found rusted with an obscured serial number.
The firearm has been transferred to the police forensic laboratory for detailed ballistic and forensic analysis.

Kimbugwe Vincent is currently in police custody as investigations into the source of the illegal weapon and possible accomplices continue.

In a statement, the Uganda Police Force commended members of the public and local authorities for their vigilance and timely information that led to the successful operation.
“Community cooperation remains key in the fight against illegal firearms and crime,” the police noted.

The recovery of the AK-47 comes amid ongoing national efforts to mop up illegal weapons circulating in the country, particularly in peri-urban areas around Kampala.

Police have appealed to anyone with information regarding illegal arms trafficking to come forward, assuring confidentiality and protection for informants.
Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
