Bushenyi - Prominent Bushenyi businesswoman and former Igara West MP aspirant, Adrine Kobusingye Domaro, has officially joined the race for National Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League.
She will face off with the incumbent, Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive and closely watched internal election.
The contest pits two contrasting leadership styles against each other: Kobusingye’s grassroots-driven, economic empowerment model and Wanyoto’s institutional and diplomatic approach.

From tea farmer to national challenger
Kobusingye, a resident of Kakoni in Kyamuhunga Town Council, Bushenyi District, is widely recognized for her leadership in reviving the tea sector in western Uganda.
She previously served as Board Chairperson of Igara Growers Tea Factory and currently heads the Igara-Buhweju Tea Farmers SACCO (IGABU), which has over 8,000 members — the majority of whom are women farmers.
Outside agriculture, she owns Hotel La Vena in Kampala/Wakiso and is a board member of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA).
Her entrepreneurial journey began with a modest $200 loan and has since grown into a diversified business empire spanning agribusiness and hospitality.
“I know what the ordinary woman goes through. I have worked with women in farming, hospitality, and community savings groups,” she told this publication in a recent interview. “If elected, I will focus on economic empowerment, mindset change, and leadership training.”

Wanyoto seeks re-election
Wanyoto, who has led the NRM Women’s League since 2015, is a trained lawyer with extensive experience in regional politics and diplomacy.
She served in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and held senior positions with the African Union, including a posting in Somalia.
A league at a crossroads?
Kobusingye’s candidacy has generated excitement, particularly in western Uganda, where her SACCO leadership and contributions to the tea industry have improved livelihoods for thousands of rural families.
She currently serves as Secretary for Publicity for the Bushenyi District NRM Women’s League and has been an active mobilizer for the ruling party.
Political analysts say the race reflects a broader shift within the NRM, from traditional political rhetoric to results-oriented leadership.
“This is no longer just about offices and speeches,” said a woman mobilizer in Sheema. “Women want leaders who understand money and opportunity.”

Greater Mukono delegates back Kobusingye
In a recent development, a group of NRM delegates from the Greater Mukono sub-region publicly endorsed Kobusingye’s bid for national chairperson. According to sources, the delegation expressed confidence in her grassroots economic approach and pledged to mobilize support across Mukono, Buikwe, Buvuma, and Kayunga districts. The endorsement signals growing national momentum for Kobusingye’s campaign and may boost her visibility in central Uganda.
With internal elections approaching, the NRM Women’s League vote is shaping up to be one of the most keenly followed races within the party.
“I started with nothing but belief,” Kobusingye said. “I want every woman in Uganda to feel the same — that they too can rise, lead, and prosper.”
