Kampala, Uganda

Political analyst Charles Rwomushana, former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) vice-president Salaamu Musumba, and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda have been mentioned in the prosecution's evidence presented in the ongoing treason case involving opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and his co-accused.
The State's summary of evidence alleges that the three attended meetings where discussions about removing the government by force were held. However, the allegations have not been tested in court, and none of the individuals mentioned has been convicted of any offence.
The development comes as the prosecution continues presenting details in the case against Dr Besigye, Haji Obeid Lutale, and UPDF Capt. Denis Oola, who are facing charges related to allegations of plotting to overthrow the government.

Prosecution's Claims
According to the prosecution, an individual identified as Andrew Wilson, described as the owner of a private security company, was introduced to Musumba in 2023.
The State alleges that Musumba sought training in secure communications and intelligence gathering during a recorded online meeting. Prosecutors further claim that she later facilitated a physical meeting in Brussels, Belgium, where several opposition figures, including Ssemujju, Rwomushana, former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and others were present.
The prosecution alleges that discussions during the meeting involved plans to remove the government through armed means and that Wilson was presented as a possible security and military adviser.
Musumba is also alleged to have introduced Wilson to an individual identified by the State as "KB," whom prosecutors say was Dr Besigye. The State claims subsequent meetings were held in Geneva and other locations.

Legal and Political Context
The treason case against Dr Besigye and his co-accused has attracted significant public attention, with the defence raising concerns over alleged human rights violations, delays in proceedings, and the treatment of the suspects.
The prosecution has maintained that the case is based on evidence that will be presented before the court, while the accused persons have denied the allegations.
The mention of additional opposition figures in the prosecution's evidence has sparked speculation over possible further investigations or charges. However, authorities have not announced any arrests or new charges against Rwomushana, Musumba, or Ssemujju.

Security agencies have also conducted searches at offices linked to the People's Front for Freedom (PFF), adding to political tensions surrounding the case.
As proceedings continue, the court will be expected to determine the strength of the evidence presented by the State and whether it meets the legal threshold required for a conviction.
All individuals mentioned remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court of law.
