Sheema - Over 50 residents from Matsyooro Parish in Kyangyenyi Sub-county, Sheema District, survived a serious accident while traveling to Kabwohe Town in Sheema Municipality to attend a court hearing.
The incident occurred as the residents were en route to a court session where their Parish Development Model (PDM) chairperson, Juliet Katushabe, was scheduled to appear. Katushabe was arrested two weeks ago on the orders of Sheema District Deputy Resident Commissioner Sam Orikunda, following multiple complaints from PDM beneficiaries accusing her of soliciting money from them—an offense under the program's guidelines.

Hoping the court would rule in their favor, the residents had hired a Toyota Dyna truck, registration number UBB 873G, to transport them to Kibingo in Kabwohe Town, where the court is located. However, the truck overturned along the way. The residents reported that they were picked up from their trading center, commonly known as Akareere, early in the morning. Unfortunately, the truck reportedly overturned again upon reaching Kabwohe Town.
Following the accident, more than 20 individuals were rushed to Kabwohe Health Centre IV, while five others were referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition. Despite the incident, several residents continued on to attend the court session where Katushabe was to appear.
Goreti Tibakoraho, a 64-year-old woman who claims to have lost UGX 700,000 to Katushabe, broke down in tears in court when the accused was brought into the chambers.
Sheema Chief Magistrate Lucy Kabahuka further remanded Katushabe, who is facing 85 counts of fraud, to Nyakashambya Prison until May 8, 2025, when she is expected to reappear in court for the hearing.
