Residents of Rwamabare in Bisheshe Division, Ibanda Municipality, have been left stranded after a devastating storm accompanied by heavy rains destroyed food crops, homes, and killed livestock on Friday night.
Residents said the natural disaster struck at around 8:00 p.m. on July 18, leaving many families counting heavy losses.
As they recounted the ordeal, they appealed to the government and well-wishers for assistance.
Mr Hussein Katumba Jumba, a resident of Rwamabare, said most food crops were destroyed, leaving many households without food.
"There was a heavy storm that destroyed matooke, coffee, cassava, and other crops. We ask our leaders to help us because we do not know how we shall feed our children. Our families are in a desperate situation," he said.
Ms Aisha Kasande, a resident of Rwamabare Upper, said the rain started at about 8:00 p.m., accompanied by strong winds and hailstorms.
"We do not know where to start. Families have nowhere to go, and some people spent the night sleeping outside," she said.
Learners at Rugarama Primary School were also affected, with school projects and livestock destroyed.

Tanisha Ainembabazi, a learner at the school, said:
"The school garden was destroyed, and our ducks died. We no longer have food to eat," she said.
Mr Nelson Akampa Rujoga, the LC I Chairperson of Rwamabare Upper Cell, said most households in his area were affected.
"The storm destroyed most of the banana plantations. People are likely to face hunger, so leaders should find ways to support these families. May God help us," he said.
The storm also affected residents in Kyaruhanga Ward, Kigarama Ward, and Bufunda Ward in Ibanda Municipality.
