Mpigi — The Chairperson of Mpigi District Local Government, Mr. Ssejjemba Martine, along with two senior officials from the District Service Commission, has been arrested over allegations of soliciting bribes in exchange for jobs. Mr. Ssejjemba was apprehended alongside Mr. Kirumira Fredrick, Chairperson of the District Service Commission, and Ms. Nakamoga Sarah, the Commission Secretary. The arrests were carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID).
According to the Anti-Corruption Unit, the arrests follow a directive from His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni. The directive came after the President received complaints during his Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour in the Greater Mpigi area on June 17, 2025.
Local journalists reportedly informed the President of rampant corruption in the district’s recruitment process, alleging that jobs were being sold to the highest bidder. Bribes allegedly ranged from UGX 50,000 to UGX 15 million, depending on the position applied for.
The three suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed. Authorities have reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and pledged to hold all public officials accountable for abuse of office.
