DARFUR - Darfur Governor and Sudan Liberation Movement leader Minni Arko Minawi has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing a massacre and burning 20 villages in North Darfur, displacing thousands.
Since mid-October, the RSF and allied militias have reportedly carried out attacks on villages of the Zaghawa ethnic group in the Kutum locality. Over 45 villages have been set ablaze, forcing residents to flee to Chad. Community leaders told Sudan Tribune that recent attacks in the Bireidik area left 12 dead, four injured, and four kidnapped.
Minawi condemned the violence, stating on social media that the RSF attacks constitute crimes against humanity with clear ethnic motives. He accused the RSF of ethnic targeting under the pretense that Zaghawa villagers support forces opposing the RSF in North Darfur.
“What happened in Bireidik is no less heinous than other recent massacres. The world must see this injustice,” Minawi wrote, urging global attention to the plight of innocent civilians.
On Friday, eyewitnesses informed Al Jazeera Net that the RSF had burned about 45 villages in the past two weeks, with around 20,000 people fleeing to Chad. Reports indicate that the villages affected include Bireidik, Anka, Amrai, Ba’ashim, and others, leaving many without homes or safety.
Adam Mezza of the Zaghawa Tribal Shura Council confirmed that over 20,000 people from Kutum have sought refuge near Chad, underscoring the ongoing crisis and urging an end to the ethnic violence.
