Mitooma –
Ruhinda South Member of Parliament, Captain Dononzio Kahonda Mugabe, has urged residents of Mitooma District to make productive use of government-provided services such as water, electricity, and improved road infrastructure to boost their incomes, rather than viewing them as mere expenditures.

Speaking during the Mitooma District Water and Sanitation Day event held at Itara Church of Uganda in Mayanga Sub-county, Kahonda emphasized the importance of leveraging these services for personal and community development.

"The government has fulfilled its role by providing essential services such as water and electricity. It is now up to the people to use them responsibly and engage in income-generating activities. These services can be a foundation for lifting individuals from poverty to a state of self-sustainability," Kahonda said.

Mitooma District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Juliet Agasha Bashisha, also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of using clean and safe water to prevent waterborne diseases.

Meanwhile, Mitooma District Chairperson Benon Karyeija highlighted the urgent need for environmental conservation and protection of water sources as a measure to combat water scarcity.

According to a report presented by District Water Officer Geoffrey Tumusiime, Mitooma's safe water coverage currently stands at 80%.
