Local leaders and technical officials in Bushenyi District have conducted a joint monitoring exercise to assess the ongoing construction of a UGX 1.4 billion maternity ward at Kyabugimbi Health Center IV, aimed at enhancing maternal and child health services across the sub-county.
The delegation was led by Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Annette Katusiime Mugisha, alongside the Chief Administrative Officer’s representative, Mr. Hilary Twebaze, who chaired the monitoring meeting. Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Madam Kellen, represented the Office of the RDC.

Updating the team on project milestones, Bushenyi District Engineer Barnabas Mbonimpa Kiiza reported that overall progress currently stands at 9%, with contractors focusing on completing the ground slab.

The construction works were officially launched on May 29, 2026, and were contracted to the National Enterprises Corporation (NEC)/UPDF Brigade. Representing the contractors, Major Chris Guma reassured leaders that the project remains strictly on schedule despite economic fluctuations.
“We are operating well within our planned schedule," Major Guma affirmed. "However much fuel and building material costs increase in the market, we will not compromise the structural quality or standards of this facility.”

Expressing satisfaction with the site progress, Hon. Katusiime Mugisha praised the engineering team for adhering to design specifications and pledged to advocate for steady project financing at the national level.
“I hail the quality of work being done so far based on the technical reports and visual assessment," Hon. Katusiime stated. "I pledge to personally follow up with the Ministry of Finance to ensure timely releases of the remaining funds so that construction works do not stall.”

Hon. Katusiime further revealed government plans to elevate Health Center IVs into fully-fledged Community Hospitals to deliver services comparable to general district hospitals, adding that when plans mature for Bushenyi District to establish a main District Hospital, it will be sited in Kyabugimbi. Expressing enthusiasm for the development, local leader Hon. Mpabwa noted that he “cannot wait to see this long-cherished dream come true for the community.”
