Joint security agencies on Tuesday morning sealed off the parliamentary offices of former Speaker Anita Annet Among and the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige Kasaija, as part of ongoing corruption investigations targeting senior parliamentary officials. Detectives, accompanied by auditors attached to the office of President Yoweri Museveni, reportedly stormed Parliament early in the morning before restricting access to the two offices.

Sources within Parliament said staff attached to both offices were instructed not to report to work until further notice as investigators commenced searches and audits linked to alleged financial irregularities.
The operation marks a dramatic escalation in the widening investigations that have in recent months cast a shadow over Uganda’s Parliament and some of its top leadership figures.

Although officials had by Tuesday morning not released a formal statement detailing the exact nature of the allegations under investigation, sources familiar with the probe indicated that the exercise is connected to scrutiny over parliamentary expenditures, procurement processes, and alleged misuse of public funds.

Security personnel were seen guarding entrances to the affected offices as investigators moved in and out carrying documents and electronic equipment believed to be relevant to the inquiry.

The developments come amid heightened political tension surrounding the recent Speakership race within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), where Anita Among had initially been linked to efforts to retain influence in the leadership structure of Parliament before later stepping aside following internal consultations within the party.

In recent months, Among has faced increasing public criticism and scrutiny over allegations relating to corruption, expenditure practices, and the management of parliamentary affairs. She has consistently denied wrongdoing.

Political observers say the latest developments could further deepen pressure on Parliament at a time when public confidence in the institution is already being tested by concerns over accountability, transparency, and governance.

By press time, neither Among nor the Clerk to Parliament had publicly commented on the sealing off of their offices.

The Criminal Investigations Directorate and State House anti-corruption teams are yet to officially address the media regarding the operation.
