SHEEMA
The Sheema Girls football team has been disqualified from representing the Ankole Zone at next month’s national secondary schools girls’ football championship in Mukono.
This follows a decision by the committee responsible for organizing school football in the Ankole region not to forward Sheema Girls as a qualified team, on grounds that they fielded ineligible players. Committee chairman Egidio Mucunguzi said investigations are ongoing, but in the meantime, Sheema Girls will be replaced by St Andrews Rubindi.
The official list of qualified teams from Ankole zone with Sheema Girls missing
Sheema Girls had reached the finals and lost 1–0 to eventual champions Boni Consilii. However, their participation was challenged by Kashenshero Girls and Ijumo Progressive, whom they had defeated in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.
This means Boni Consilii, Ijumo Progressive, Kibingo SS, Nyabubare SS, Kinoni High, and St Andrews Rubindi will represent Ankole next month.
If found guilty, Sheema Girls will be stripped of the silver medals they were awarded as runners-up in Ibanda.
