The Regional Police Commander for Greater Bushenyi sub-region, Achilia Godfrey, has warned aspiring candidates and their supporters against covering vehicle number plates during campaign activities.
Speaking to reporters, Achilia noted that there has been a growing habit in the region where supporters and candidates cover number plates with campaign posters — an act that violates traffic rules and regulations.
“We have observed this trend, and it must stop immediately. Covering number plates is illegal, and we shall not tolerate it during this campaign season,” Achilia warned.

He added that he has already instructed District Police Commanders (DPCs) and traffic officers to conduct patrols on all major roads to ensure traffic laws are fully enforced.
“I have directed all DPCs and traffic officers to intensify road patrols and arrest anyone found violating traffic laws under the cover of politics,” he stated.

Achilia also expressed concern over politicians who violate the law under the pretense of supporting the ruling party. He said police had received intelligence that some individuals had been assigned by certain camps to incite violence, engage in reckless driving, tear down and deface campaign posters, and pull down opponents’ pictures — all of which are criminal offenses. “Some people have been given the task of provoking violence, destroying posters, and driving recklessly just to intimidate others. We are watching closely, and anyone caught will face the full force of the law,” Achilia said.

He appealed to all candidates and their supporters to observe the law and promote peace during the campaign period. “Let us respect each other, compete fairly, and maintain peace. The law applies to everyone, regardless of political affiliation,” he concluded.
