MITYANA
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police in Mityana, has arrested four senior officials from Mityana District over alleged abuse of office and nepotism in the district’s recruitment processes.
Those arrested are Anna Miriam Nassali, the Vice Chairperson LCV of Mityana District; Dr. Lwassampijja Fred, Chairperson of the District Service Commission; Mukiibi Hussein, Secretary to the Commission; and Ssekibuule Andrew, a member of the Commission.
According to preliminary investigations, the officials are accused of conspiring to irregularly influence recruitment processes in favour of their relatives, including children and spouses, contrary to established public service guidelines. Investigators allege that the actions undermined merit-based recruitment and denied qualified candidates fair competition for public positions.
Among the affected positions are Municipal Labour Officer, Education Assistants, Accountant for Mityana Municipality, head teachers, and several teaching posts in schools across the district.
Authorities say the appointments were allegedly made without adhering to mandatory employment and appointment procedures. The officials are further accused of failing to declare conflicts of interest to the Commission, in violation of the Leadership Code Act and the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to restore transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service recruitment processes within Mityana District.
Investigations are continuing, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of inquiries.
