As campaigns for Local Council I (LC I) elections intensify, candidates have been urged to use decent language and conduct peaceful campaigns.

Speaking to reporters, Bushenyi District Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Donanto Kagatsizi said candidates should exercise maximum decorum because they all belong to the same communities and will continue living together after the elections.

"These elections are meant to identify leaders who will serve the people. Candidates should avoid using abusive language or engaging in monetary politics because, after the elections, they will continue living together in the same villages," Kagatsizi said.

Kagatsizi added that voters should elect leaders based on their ability to serve the community rather than on handouts or empty promises.

Meanwhile, Esau Muhumuza Ryanteretere, the LC I flag bearer for Ryanteretere Village in Bumbaire Sub-county, urged residents to elect leaders who are committed to service and community development rather than voting out of excitement.

"I ask the people of Ryanteretere to vote for a leader who is focused on service delivery and development. Leadership is about improving people's lives, not creating excitement during campaigns," Muhumuza said.

In Central Division, Mauda Muhwezi, the LC I flag bearer for Nyarwanya Village, appealed to voters to re-elect her so she can continue promoting development by supporting government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

"I have worked with the people of Nyarwanya Village and supported government programmes such as the Parish Development Model. I ask voters to renew their trust in me so that, together, we can continue bringing development to our community," Muhwezi said.

Official campaigns for the village-level elections began on Monday and will end on July 27, ahead of polling day.
