The President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will host the heroic Uganda U17 national football team—The Uganda Kobs—at State House Entebbe on Wednesday. The President’s recognition comes after the Kobs made history by becoming the first-ever Ugandan team to qualify for a FIFA World Cup.
According to a statement released by FUFA and received by this website, the entire Kobs contingent of players and officials, together with FUFA executives, will be treated to a luncheon at State House. All members of the delegation underwent mandatory COVID-19 testing on Tuesday morning.
The Kobs players that qualified for Qatar
The Uganda Kobs reached the historic milestone by defeating The Gambia 2-1 in a thrilling match played at Stade El Abdi in El Jadida, Morocco. Both goals were scored by James Bogere, sealing Uganda’s spot at the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup, scheduled for November in Qatar.
President Museveni has consistently recognized and rewarded outstanding Ugandan athletes who shine on the international stage across various disciplines. The last football team to receive such recognition was the Uganda Cranes, who reached the round of 16 at the AFCON 2019 finals before narrowly losing 1-0 to Senegal. Upon their return, the team was awarded UGX 3.8 billion by the appreciative Head of State.

It remains unclear whether the President will extend a similar cash reward to the heroic Kobs, especially considering that under-age athletes typically do not receive cash gifts.
Uganda has been drawn into Group K alongside France, Chile, and Canada. The team will begin their FIFA U17 World Cup campaign against Canada on November 5, followed by a clash with Chile on November 8, and will conclude the group stage against France on November 11.
