Uganda Cubs training session on Monday Nov 24 at Dire Dawa Stadium
Defending champions Uganda, coached by Ghanaian tactician Layrea Kingston, have been holding intensive training sessions in preparation for this crucial tie, which could seal their place in the semifinals with a victory.
The Uganda Cubs began the tournament on a high note, registering emphatic 4-0 and 9-0 wins over Burundi and Sudan, respectively, before suffering a 2-1 defeat to rivals Tanzania in their third match.
Following Monday’s (November 24) training session, goalkeeper Ashiraf Lukyamuzi expressed the team’s readiness for the Djibouti encounter and the semifinals, regardless of their opponent.
Coach Kingston emphasized that the team must focus on the two upcoming crucial matches—the final group game and the semifinal—before thinking about the final.
The semifinal lineup will be confirmed after the remaining group-stage fixtures on Wednesday and Thursday. However, Tanzania and hosts Ethiopia have already secured their semifinal spots from Group B and Group A, respectively.
