MONTALCINO, Italy
There was no ballgown. There was no cathedral, no helicopter, no week-long takeover of a Lake Como villa. When Dove Cameron married Damiano David on Thursday, September 24, she did it on the steps of the historic Town Hall in Montalcino, a hilltop town in Tuscany better known for its Brunello wine than for its red carpets. She wore a suit.
Specifically, she wore a custom white Giorgio Armani suit, cinched at the waist, finished with a white tie and a cape that fell from her shoulders. David, the 27-year-old former frontman of Italian rock band Måneskin, matched her in ivory with a silk scarf. Cameron, 30, carried a simple bunch of white calla lilies tied with lace. After the vows, the couple kissed on the town hall steps while friends threw confetti, and the photos went around the world within hours.
A low-key ceremony, a high-security party
The couple arrived at the ceremony in a vintage car as fans gathered in the narrow streets outside. Reports describe the ceremony itself as low-key: a civil wedding in a medieval public building rather than a staged spectacle.
The celebration that followed was a different matter. More than 200 guests gathered for a private party at an exclusive Tuscan estate, with tight security and no official photographs released by Friday morning. The approach, intimate in public and private at the party, is one that many younger celebrities now favour. Fans get one perfect image. From a VMAs meeting to a Tuscan 'I do'
The relationship has, in a sense, come full circle. The pair first met at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, the night Cameron won Best New Artist on the back of her breakout single 'Boyfriend'. They reconnected the following year. Rumours started after Cameron was seen at a Måneskin concert in September 2023, and the couple were photographed on a dinner date in Los Angeles in January 2024.
They made things official the following month. On February 4, 2024, Cameron posted a photo on Instagram of David carrying her high heels. Days later they made their red carpet debut together at Clive Davis's annual Pre-Grammy Gala. David proposed in October 2025, and Cameron shared the news with fans at New Year, posting her ring with a caption calling the relationship her 'favourite part of being alive'.
Cameron has rarely been shy about how she feels. In an interview with Cosmopolitan she called David 'the best person I've met in my life'. On The Tonight Show she revealed he had helped design the ring himself, which she said made it feel especially personal.
Two careers in transition
The wedding lands at an interesting moment for both stars. Cameron spent her teens and early twenties inside the Disney system, starring in Liv and Maddie and the Descendants films, before rebuilding herself as a pop artist with a darker, more theatrical sound. She has also spoken openly about her identity. She came out as bisexual years ago and has discussed how she worried people would not believe her. Earlier this year she said her late father was 'at the very least not straight'.
David's path has been just as dramatic. Måneskin won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 with 'Zitti e buoni' and went on to become one of the rare Italian-language rock acts to break through around the world. When the band paused, he went solo, releasing his debut album Funny Little Fears in 2025 and moving closer to the American pop mainstream. Choosing his home country for the wedding, in a small Tuscan town rather than Rome or Milan, reads like a quiet statement about roots.
Why the suit matters
Fashion watchers were quick to point out that Cameron's look was the real headline. Bridal suits are not new. Bianca Jagger wore a white Yves Saint Laurent jacket to marry Mick Jagger in 1971, and the look has returned again and again since. But a Disney-raised pop star choosing tailoring over tulle, and the groom choosing ivory rather than black, sends a clear message. Both partners dressed as equals, in tones that matched rather than contrasted.
Armani's involvement adds another layer. The Milan house has long been the address for relaxed, softly structured tailoring, and a custom commission for a wedding in Italy made obvious sense. It also connects the day to Italian craft rather than a red carpet stylist's showpiece, fitting for a couple who kept almost every other detail private.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/dove-cameron-wedding-2-092426-348f75a2deb34724a0d601091cf7371f.jpg)
What this means for you
If you are planning a wedding, the Cameron–David model is worth a look, and not only because it is stylish. A civil ceremony at a town hall is quick, legally simple and often very affordable. Separating the short, public ceremony from a longer private party lets couples spend where it matters most to them. Many Italian town halls, including in small Tuscan towns, host weddings for visitors, although couples marrying abroad should check paperwork requirements well in advance.
The fashion lesson is just as useful. A well-cut white or ivory suit can be worn again, altered, or dyed after the day. Adding one dramatic element, such as a cape, a long scarf or a statement collar, gives photos the sense of occasion without the cost or restrictions of a traditional gown.
The last word
Celebrity weddings used to compete on scale: more guests, bigger venues, more exclusive magazine deals. What made this one stand out was how little it tried to do. A small town, a public building, two matching outfits and one perfect moment on the steps.
For a couple whose relationship has played out in front of cameras since the day they met, that restraint may be the most romantic choice of all.
