Kampala — As the festive season approaches, the Uganda Traffic Police have advised motorists to consider alternative routes to ease heavy traffic congestion on major highways, especially for those traveling upcountry.

Recommended routes
Western route (Kampala to Western Uganda)
Motorists heading west are encouraged to use the following alternatives:
Nakawuka – Kasanje – Mpigi Route: This bypass will help avoid traffic build-ups on the main Kampala–Masaka highway.
Buloba to Mpigi Connection: Another viable option to circumvent congestion on the primary route.

Eastern route (Kampala to Eastern Uganda)
Wantoni (Mukono) to Kisoga via Nyenga to Jinja: This route is recommended for light vehicles to avoid the heavily congested main road, which is undergoing construction. Heavy vehicles are advised to stick to the main route to prevent clogging the alternative roads.

Travellers are advised to adhere to traffic regulations and drive cautiously

Ensuring a smoother journey
Authorities emphasize that these alternative routes are part of broader efforts to reduce traffic congestion and ensure a safe and pleasant travel experience for all.
Motorists are reminded to plan their journeys early, adhere to traffic regulations, and drive cautiously. The Traffic Police will be on high alert throughout the festive season to manage traffic flow and assist travelers where needed.
For updates and assistance, motorists can contact the Traffic Police emergency lines or follow advisories issued through the media.
