With two days left for the 10th National population to take place, starting with night Census on 9th May, 2024, Dr Albert Byamugisha, the board chairperson for the Uganda Bureau of statistics (UBOS), has urged Ugandans to embrace the exercise and be ready to be counted.

Byamugisha who  lectured  Local leaders and religious leaders from Mbarara City North Constituency  at Ankole Mall gardens in  Kamukuzi  on the importance of the holding the national population Census over the weekend, said UBOS  announced  May 10th which marks the beginning of the population census will be a public holiday.

He hailed Mbarara City North MP, Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari, for organizing the sensational meeting of local and religious leaders to support the exercise.

“The population Census is important for the planning purposes of the country. All individuals that will have slept in Uganda on the night Census that is May 9th, will be counted. I appeal to answer all the five questions, about the number of Individuals who have spent that night in a specific home,” He said.

Byamugisha also rallied all Local leaders especially the Local council one and two to assist the enumerators in identifying homes in order to capture accurate information, to enable the country to plan well for its citizens.

“We have recruited and trained enough enumerators and armed them with gadgets to capture data. I want to put it right that enumerators are not going to ask 180 questions as it has been speculated, but an individual will be required to answer only five questions.

Majorly, they will be asking five questions, who are you, where are you, what are you?, what do you own?  , and the services offered that are around you, like hospitals, roads, Schools among others,” He explained.

Dr Rukaari, urged locals in Mbarara and the country at large, to embrace the 10th Population census for the government to plan well for better service delivery. He also pledged to support the UBOS team in sensitizing Ugandans on the critical role of the census through media and religious platforms until the end of the exercise.
