Uganda’s teenage striker Sylivia Kabene has sealed a lucrative move to Malta, signing with top-tier side Hibernians Paola WFC. The Crested Cranes and Queen Cranes forward will combine her professional playing career with further studies on a two-year, fully sponsored club scholarship. Her contract also covers housing, medical care, and a salary, underscoring the club’s commitment to her development both on and off the pitch. Kabene, who has spent the last five years at St Noa Girls School and its club side, rose to prominence in 2022 when her goal in St Noa’s 2-1 victory over Kenya’s Wiyeta secured the school’s first-ever FEASSA Girls Football Gold in Arusha, Tanzania.

She has since been instrumental in St Noa’s dominance at both national and regional competitions—guiding the team to back-to-back FEASSA gold medals in 2024 and 2025, the latter after a 1-0 win over Kawempe Muslim in Kakamega, Kenya.

Kabene also played a pivotal role in St Noa’s successful campaign in the FUFA Elite Women League 2024/25, which earned them promotion to the FUFA Women Super League, winning the MVP award in the process.
Her record is nothing short of remarkable—scoring over 95 goals across USSSA and FEASSA championships in the last four years, while collecting three FEASSA and two USSSA titles.

On the international stage, Kabene has featured for all Uganda women’s national teams, from the U17 Teen Cranes to the U20 Queen Cranes, and now the senior Crested Cranes. She has scored 11 international goals, including one in Uganda’s recent 5-0 aggregate victory over Namibia in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. At Hibernians, Kabene will join a squad that includes stars such as Brazilian striker Lucas Villela Lapert, currently leading the club’s scoring charts with 12 goals. She is expected to bolster the team’s push against table leaders Swieqi United.

While the Maltese league winners earn a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, participation is not guaranteed. The last Maltese side to compete was Birkirkara in 2007–08, where they lost all three matches with a 1–37 goal record. They returned in 2009–10, again losing all their games, conceding 26 goals and scoring just one.
