KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni assured the NRM Parliamentary Caucus that his government has prioritized socio-economic transformation since coming to power in 1986. Museveni emphasized the need for free education and wealth creation, urging Ugandans to embrace the “money economy” through commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT.
At a meeting with NRM MPs in Gomba, Museveni highlighted progress in the cattle corridor, where dairy farming has helped reduce poverty. He stressed the importance of intensive agriculture in densely populated areas, allowing small landowners to benefit from high-value crops. However, he warned MPs of a “showdown” with those opposing the rationalisation of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), accusing detractors of spreading misinformation.

Sarah Nalwanga, coordinator of the Presidential poverty alleviation programme in Gomba and Sembabule, reported that since the program’s inception in 2011, over 1,800 households have benefited from farming support, achieving food security and economic stability. Farmers from Gomba praised Museveni for the transformative impact of his poverty alleviation projects, particularly in dairy and coffee farming.
The legislators also visited successful local farms, accompanied by top NRM officials and East African Legislative Assembly Speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana, who praised Uganda’s strides in agricultural empowerment.
