Vice Chancellor Prof. Samson James Opolot described the event as a major milestone in the institution’s 12-year journey since its inauguration in 2014. The university currently employs 189 staff, which Opolot said contributes significantly to reducing unemployment. He appealed to government to extend more support to private universities, arguing that Ibanda University plays a major role similar to public institutions.
Opolot highlighted several initiatives, including research partnerships in Europe and Africa, projects addressing pollution in River Rwizi, dairy value chain development under MasterCard Foundation, and climate-smart agricultural programs. He said the university has reached over 10,000 households, including 5,000 youth and women entrepreneurs in southwest Ankole.
He also announced the launch of the Open Distance and E-Learning (ODeL) platform to expand access to education.
