BUSHENYI

Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the suspected murder of a 23-year-old man who allegedly disappeared after being accused of stealing coffee.
The deceased, identified as Erisha, a resident of Bumbaire, was initially reported as a victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident along the Ishaka–Kasese Road on May 26, 2026.

According to police, the body was taken to KIU Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
However, the examination revealed multiple bruises and injuries consistent with assault, prompting investigators to suspect foul play.

Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa said preliminary investigations indicate that Erisha was allegedly taken from his home by unidentified individuals over accusations of coffee theft before he disappeared.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was reportedly taken from his home by unidentified individuals on allegations of coffee theft and was not seen again thereafter,” Tayebwa said.

Police said the body remained unidentified until June 5, when relatives positively identified it as Erisha’s.
A case of suspected murder has since been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

Tayebwa condemned mob justice and urged the public to report suspected offenders to relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
“We strongly condemn all forms of mob justice. Suspected offenders should always be reported to the relevant authorities for lawful handling and due process,” he said.

Police extended condolences to the deceased’s family and appealed to anyone with information that could aid investigations to report to the nearest police station.
