The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Police Constable Katungi Alex before the Kajjansi Chief Magistrates Court on charges of assaulting several individuals in Kajjansi.
PC Katungi, an officer attached to the Environmental Protection Police Unit (EPPU) under the Ministry of Water and Environment, is accused of violently assaulting multiple people, claiming they were engaged in illegal activities on wetlands.

According to prosecution, the accused allegedly carried out beatings on different occasions in the guise of enforcing environmental laws, actions that have drawn widespread criticism from the local community. Authorities revealed that PC Katungi is also the subject of ongoing investigations following numerous complaints of harassment, illegal arrests, land grabbing, and extortion, particularly targeting both residents and investors in Kajjansi and Entebbe areas. In a disturbing twist, the officer is further accused of abusing his office by illegally establishing personal developments in protected wetland zones.

PC Katungi Alex was jointly charged with Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Hadali Kenneth for alleged conspiracy to commit the said offenses. Both officers have been remanded to prison until April 9, 2025, as investigations continue. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice and holding law enforcement officers accountable for abusing their powers under the guise of environmental protection.
