KAMPALA
A few days after their successful return from Kigali, Rwanda, where the national U-17 men's team were crowned CECAFA champions and secured qualification for the 2027 AFCON in Morocco, the Uganda Cubs are set to return to camp to prepare for another major tournament.
The 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup is fast approaching, giving head coach Laryea Kingston and his players just 14 days to prepare for the competition. To kick-start preparations, Kingston has named a provisional squad of 35 players.
CECAFA goalkeeping hero and tournament custodian Dean David Ssegirinya, top scorer Arnold Kayemba, and captain and tournament MVP Henry Muhoozi headline the squad. They are joined by Sebastian Fisher, who scored a hat-trick on his debut during Uganda's emphatic 8-0 victory over Burundi.
The likes of Thomas Ogema, Owen Mukisa, Brian Olwa, Shakur Ngobi, Kombi Eze, Suna Musa, Babi Shakur, Trevor Mubiru and Waita Ibrahim, among others, who missed the Kigali tournament because of national examinations, have returned to the squad. The tournament is scheduled to run from November 19 to December 13.
The competition will once again be held at the state-of-the-art Aspire Zone complex, with eight matches played per day during the group stage and Round of 32. From Saturday to Wednesday, matches will kick off at 15:30 local time, with the final games starting at 18:30. On Thursdays and Fridays, action will begin at 16:00, with the last kick-off scheduled for 19:00.
The final will be played at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on December 13 at 19:00 local time.
