The 5th edition of the Abarara Volleyball Club Independence Tournament has been confirmed for Saturday and Sunday, October 11–12, at St. Kizitto Preparatory Seminary, Rwebishuri.
The championship, which brings together both clubs and institutions of learning into a volleyball bonanza, returns after a two-year break.
Rev. Fr. Paul Kruger Byamugisha, the chief organiser of the event, said this year’s edition will feature better organisation and bigger prizes. In the men’s club category, winners will walk away with UGX 500,000, while runners-up will receive UGX 300,000. In the women’s category, the winners will take UGX 300,000, with runners-up earning UGX 200,000.
“We are coming back stronger, and we want to start from where we stopped. This year’s edition will be the most competitive and entertaining as we join the rest of Ugandans in celebrating independence through the sport of volleyball,” said Rev. Fr. Byamugisha.

In addition, there will be cash prizes for winners and runners-up in the institutions category, alongside trophies, medals, and individual accolades.
The Abarara Volleyball Tournament was founded by the Abarara Volleyball Club, a Mbarara City–based team, with the aim of promoting the sport in the Ankole region while celebrating Uganda’s independence through sports.
In just four years, the tournament has attracted clubs and institutional teams from across the country, cementing its place as a key event on Uganda’s volleyball calendar.
