Kizinda-Kigoma Town Council in Bushenyi District has officially launched a health initiative dubbed the “Keep Kizinda Clean Campaign” aimed at improving urban sanitation and eliminating roadside waste.
The campaign kicked off with an early-morning clean-up exercise along the streets of Kizinda town and was officiated by Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Emmy Ngabirano alongside local civic leaders.
Speaking during the launch, Kizinda Town Council Mayor, Sheikh Adam Ssemugabi, emphasized that the initiative was designed to permanently eradicate the accumulating garbage heaps that had increasingly compromised the town's public health image. He urged local business owners and residents to take personal responsibility for the waste they produce.

“Our people must take the lead in managing and clearing their garbage,” Sheikh Ssemugabi declared. “As a town council, we have established designated collection points and committed to picking up waste at least three times a week, but cleanliness must begin with the individual trader and household.”
Commending the local leadership for taking proactive steps, RDC Emmy Ngabirano reaffirmed the central government's backing for community-driven hygiene programs, noting that regular clean-up routines are vital for disease prevention and urban development.

“I fully align with and support the leadership of Kizinda-Kigoma Town Council for adopting the monthly cleaning policy recently introduced by the government," Ngabirano stated. “Cleanliness is a collective responsibility, and every Ugandan across the country should embrace this policy with ease and enthusiasm.”

The local “Keep Kizinda Clean" campaign directly mirrors Uganda's National Cleaning Day initiative—a monthly nationwide sanitation drive observed on the last Saturday of every month between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Championed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and officially launched on July 25, 2026, the national program mandates citizens, business proprietors, and local authorities to pause routine commercial activities to clean their residential homes, shop fronts, markets, and shared public spaces.
