Kampala

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Egesa Mackland, a Kampala-based businessman, before the KCCA Grade 1 Magistrates’ Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to defraud.

Mackland is accused of conspiring with Kizito Dalton, who was previously charged and remanded over the same matter, to defraud an American investor of USD 105,000.

According to prosecution, between February and June 2024, the duo falsely claimed they would supply the investor with 20 kilograms of pure gold, a promise that turned out to be fraudulent.

Mackland has been remanded until July 23, 2025, as investigations continue.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on fraudulent investment schemes that tarnish Uganda’s reputation and deter genuine foreign investors.
