The Mbarara City North legislator, Mr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari, has urged the public to shun domestic violence in order to build peaceful and stable homes. Mr. Rukaari made the remarks during Easter celebrations at Uganda Martyrs Town Parish in Mbarara City, where prayers were led by the parish priest, Fr. Didas Kasapuri.
“A disorganized home cannot develop, and it negatively affects the well-being of children raised in such an environment,” Mr. Rukaali said. “I encourage all of you to shun domestic violence so that we can have peaceful homes. Without peace at home, development is impossible, and children suffer the consequences.”
He emphasized the vital role women play in promoting peace within households.
“A home without a woman is not at peace. A woman’s role in marriage should be to serve as a pillar against violence,” he added.
Mr. Rukaali attributed the rising cases of domestic violence in western Uganda to a lack of mutual respect and communication in homes—some of which have led to fatal outcomes.
Meanwhile, the Mbarara City Mayor, Mr. Robert Kakyebezi Mugabe, called on the public to be vigilant and peaceful during the election season.
“I thank God for the gift of life and for allowing us to reform from pride. Refrain from lies and be grateful to the Lord because our hope lies in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are in a political season—remain watchful and avoid all forms of violence,” he said.
Fr. Didas Kasapuri, who led the Easter Mass, urged Christians to trust in the Lord during prayer and not be swayed by materialism.
“Do not be consumed by earthly things. Refrain from witchcraft, theft, and hatred, and turn to God, for He alone can save you,” Fr. Kasapuri advised.
