The Commander of Battle Group 45, Colonel Justus Musenene, has commended Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for their discipline, resilience, and professionalism.
“I am impressed by your discipline, resilience, and professionalism while operating in this difficult environment,” Col Musenene said.
He made the remarks during an inspection tour of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in the Barawe sub-sector, where he assessed the troops’ combat readiness, welfare, and overall operational posture.
“You have demonstrated high levels of combat readiness and commitment to duty,” he said, adding that the standards displayed by the troops were key to the success of the mission.
Col Musenene urged the soldiers to remain united and cooperative for the remainder of their tour of duty.
“Continue working together as one team. Unity, cooperation, and comradeship are essential for mission success,” he told the troops.
He further emphasised the importance of discipline and teamwork, noting that they were the foundation of any successful military operation.
“Discipline and teamwork are not optional. They are the backbone of every successful force,” he said.
The commander also cautioned the soldiers against neglecting their health, urging them to adopt healthy lifestyles to ensure long service in the UPDF.
“Take care of your health at all times. Keep healthy if you want to serve in the forces for long,” Col Musenene said.
The troops described the commander’s visit as a major morale boost.
“This visit has motivated us and strengthened our resolve to continue protecting civilians and supporting stabilisation efforts in Somalia,” one of the soldiers said.
Another soldier noted that the engagement reaffirmed their commitment to the mission, saying, “We remain focused on delivering peace and security despite the challenges.”
The Forward Operating Bases inspected included Runway, Seaport, and Barawe Knoll.
During the tour, Col Musenene was accompanied by the Commanding Officer of the 145 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Ochan, together with other senior and junior UPDF officers.
