KAMPALA
Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has reiterated that ongoing investigations into alleged corruption linked to Kampala road projects will not spare any individual, warning that arrests could extend further as probes deepen.
In a firm statement tied to the restructuring of urban infrastructure financing, Muhoozi said security agencies have been granted full authority to pursue suspects involved in the alleged mismanagement of public funds, regardless of their position or political influence.
The remarks come amid reports that funding and supervision of key Kampala road works are being transferred from civilian institutions to a system overseen under the Chief of Defence Forces structure. Officials say the move is intended to improve efficiency and close gaps that have enabled corruption in infrastructure delivery.
Muhoozi defended the shift, arguing that previous arrangements had been weakened by poor accountability and abuse of procurement processes. He added that stronger enforcement measures were now necessary to protect taxpayers’ money and ensure value for public investments.
The announcement has generated debate within political and governance circles, with some welcoming the tougher stance on corruption while others express concern over the increasing role of military structures in civilian development projects.
Meanwhile, investigations linked to alleged irregularities in road funding and contracting continue, with several individuals reportedly under scrutiny as authorities widen their focus.
Muhoozi maintained that the anti-corruption campaign is ongoing and warned that “more action is coming,” signaling that the current phase of enforcement may only be the beginning of a broader crackdown.
The situation remains fluid as Kampala’s infrastructure governance undergoes significant changes alongside heightened security involvement in public financial oversight.
