Mbarara – Police in Mbarara City North Division, in collaboration with the Flying Squad Unit, successfully recovered a 4-month-old baby, Musika Ayan, who had been stolen on December 9, 2024. The baby was tracked and found in Kagaga Parish, Igarama Subcounty, Isingiro District.

The infant, son of Namatovu Sifa and Bombo Bruhan of Rwebihuro Cell, Rwimigina Ward in Mbarara City, was taken while in the care of a caretaker. According to police, the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Aineamani Mackline, tricked the caretaker into buying her yogurt at around 11:00 AM. Upon the caretaker’s return, the suspect had vanished with the baby. Police acted swiftly to track the suspect, ultimately apprehending her in Isingiro District. Preliminary investigations reveal that Aineamani allegedly took the child to present him to her husband as their own.

The baby has since been safely reunited with his mother. Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, commended the team’s efforts but urged the public to exercise greater caution in monitoring the movements of their children and those around them. “Be vigilant and ensure your children are protected from strangers who might take advantage of lapses in attention,” he advised.

Investigations into the incident continue, and the suspect remains in custody as police prepare charges.
