Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament (2021-2026) and Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, has passed away. The former Minister of Youth and Children Affairs was confirmed dead earlier today, leaving many in shock and mourning.
Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology, Chris Baryomunsi, shared the sad news on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, "I am sad to announce the death of Hon. Sarah Mateke, Woman MP, Kisoro District, and Minister of State for Defence, Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs. May the good Lord comfort the family and rest her soul in eternal peace. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course."
A family member revealed that Mateke had been battling heart-related complications before her passing. She was the daughter of former Minister of State Philemon Mateke and was born on July 15, 1974, in Chahi Subcounty, Kisoro District.
Speaker Among at Mulago Farewell Home
Following her demise, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth were present at Mulago Farewell Home, where Mateke's body was moved earlier today.
Further details on her funeral arrangements will be shared in due course. The nation mourns the loss of a committed leader who served her people and country diligently.
