LEBANON - The United Nations Human Rights Office reported that nearly 70 percent of those killed in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict are women and children, describing the situation as a "systematic violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law."
In the past 24 hours alone, Israeli airstrikes across Gaza claimed the lives of at least 39 Palestinians and wounded 123 others, according to Gaza's health ministry. Additionally, Israeli airstrikes continue in southern Lebanon, where 52 people have been killed in recent days, increasing tensions in the region.
Since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023, following Hamas-led attacks in Israel, at least 43,508 Palestinians have been killed and 102,684 injured in Gaza, with many civilian casualties. Meanwhile, Israel has reported that the attacks by Hamas resulted in 1,139 Israeli deaths and more than 200 captives.
In Lebanon, the situation remains critical as Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 3,117 people and wounded 13,888 since the start of the conflict, further straining Lebanon-Israel relations.
The international community, including the UN, has raised urgent concerns about the humanitarian crisis, emphasizing the need for adherence to international humanitarian law to protect civilians, particularly women and children.
