Egidio Mucunguzi has been re-elected unopposed as the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole Zone Chairperson after the association began electing new office bearers across the country, starting with the zonal assemblies.
During the Ankole Zone elective assembly held in Mbarara over the weekend and presided over by Mbarara City Sports Officer Cleophas Musinguzi, Mucunguzi and most members of his executive committee were returned to office to lead the association for another four-year term.
Mucunguzi, the headteacher of Matsyoro Vocational Secondary School, first assumed the top position in 2022 after replacing Eliab Tumushabe. He was also elected unopposed at the time.

Speaking after his re-election, Mucunguzi thanked delegates for the confidence they had shown in his leadership and pledged to build on the achievements of the previous term.

"Thank you for entrusting us with this responsibility once again. This is a clear sign that you have confidence in our leadership. As we begin another four-year term, we remain mindful of your expectations, and we promise to deliver even more. On behalf of the newly elected executive, I pledge that we shall embrace your ideas in guiding the association, and I urge everyone to maintain the unity that has enabled us to serve you effectively over the past four years," Mucunguzi said.

His deputy, Obed Bamwine, Treasurer Rev. Fr. Pastore Mujuni, Organising Secretary Bashir Kwerebera and Assistant General Secretary Owe Baijuka were also returned unopposed.
However, the position of General Secretary was contested, with incumbent Obed Natweta defeating Hannington Asiimwe by 46 votes to 13.
