The Bushenyi District Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Williams Donanto Katsigazi, has called for greater transparency among LC1 chairpersons when handling land-related disputes.
Katsigazi made this appeal during a meeting held on March 11, 2025, at Nshumi Parish, Kyamuhunga Sub-County, following a surge in land dispute complaints attributed to the mishandling of cases by local leaders.

“Many LC1 chairpersons do not work with their committees but instead make decisions single-handedly. This misuse of power, especially when stamping documents without due consultation, has led to avoidable land conflicts,” Katsigazi said.

He emphasized that such lack of collaboration and transparency undermines trust in local governance and often escalates disputes rather than resolving them.

Addressing community challenges
The meeting, which also focused on insecurity and domestic violence, brought together local leaders, law enforcement officers, and residents to deliberate on critical issues affecting the community.
Greater Bushenyi Sub-Region Police Community Liaison Officer, Mary Mukago, raised concerns over the rising cases of domestic violence, highlighting a growing trend of men being battered by women.

“Many of these cases stem from poverty and increased drug abuse. Families are on the brink of collapse due to constant fights and escalating violence,” Mukago noted.

Call for a Police post in Nshumi parish

In his remarks, Adolf Kanyomozi, Chairman of LCIII Kyamuhunga Sub-County, called for the establishment of a police post in Nshumi Parish, citing heightened security concerns in the area.

“Nshumi Parish comprises 56 villages, yet it lacks a police post to address rising crime rates. Strengthening community policing is crucial for maintaining law and order, particularly in rural areas,” Kanyomozi emphasized.

The Bushenyi District leadership reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing local governance, promoting conflict resolution mechanisms, and improving security measures to foster peace and development in the region.
