KAMPALA, Uganda
Police in Old Kampala have apprehended eight suspects linked to a notorious urban gang after a viral social media video showed members bragging about violent assaults and attempting to extort medical practitioners.
The arrests follow an intelligence-led operation conducted on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Gojo Gym in Namungona, Lubya Parish, Rubaga Division.
In the viral video, a group of about six men can be seen boasting about assaulting unsuspecting members of the public, claiming to have broken several victims' jaws and teeth. The suspects went further to demand a cut of the financial proceeds earned by dentists treating their victims, threatening to attack medical practitioners who refused to comply.
Addressing the media, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that four of the eight individuals arrested during the raid were directly identified in the video clip.

Police listed the suspects currently in custody as:
Gym Used as Front for Criminal Activity
Preliminary police investigations reveal that the suspects allegedly used Gojo Gym under the guise of boxing and fitness training as a coordination hub for violent criminal enterprises across Kampala.
Security forces suspect the group's involvement in a wide range of urban violent crimes, including armed robberies, housebreaking, street muggings, phone snatching, the use of deadly weapons, and unlawful possession of narcotics.
The last four suspects were apprehended on-site during the raid, with some found in possession of suspected illegal drugs.
"All eight suspects remain in police custody as we finalize case files ahead of their appearance in court," police noted in a statement.
Investigators are continuing operations to track down, identify, and arrest the remaining individuals featured in the viral recording. Police have urged members of the public, particularly victims of recent violent muggings or dental practitioners who may have been targeted or threatened, to come forward with relevant information to assist ongoing prosecutions.
