Barely 6 hours after signing the censure motion against the Parliament Commissioners, Igara East Member of Parliament Michael Mawanda has been summoned by the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), along with Ignatius Wamakuyu Mudimi, the MP for Mbulambuli Constituency and disciplinary head of the People's League of Uganda (PLU), for ongoing corruption investigations.
"This morning I appended my signature to the censure motion against the four commissioners of Parliament, Together we can make a difference." read his tweet on his X handle.

Mawanda is being investigated for alleged theft, corruption, and intentions to defraud Buyaka Growers Cooperative, which serves war veterans. This comes after a public spat with PLU leader in Buganda, Frank Gashumba, who accused Mawanda of perpetuating gross corruption.
The CID has been investigating corruption cases involving several MPs, including Yusuf Mutembuli, Cissy Namujju, and Paul Akamba, who were arrested and charged last week. The investigations stem from a report by the Mwine Mpaaka probe committee, which discovered that payments amounting to Shs48.77 billion were made in excess to various cooperatives.
Speaker Anita Among has urged all MPs implicated in the embezzlement of Shs164bn cooperatives compensation funds to report to the police. The cooperatives in question include West Acholi, Busoga Growers, Uganda Transport Association, West Mengo, Banyankoole Kweterana, and Masaba Cooperatives.
More MPs are expected to be detained as the investigations continue.
