Kigali
The Uganda Cubs stormed into the CECAFA U17 Championship semi-finals as Group B leaders after playing to a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia in their final group match at Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Arnold Kawooya restored parity in the 76th minute after Ethiopia had taken the lead six minutes earlier, in the 70th minute.
Head coach Laryea Kingston made only one substitution in a tense encounter, bringing on striker Sebastian Fisher for Yusuf Ssenyonga as the Cubs searched for an equaliser.
The draw left both teams on four points, but Uganda topped the group with a superior goal difference of seven, while Ethiopia advanced as the best runner-up, with a goal difference of two. The two sides will meet again in Saturday’s semi-final.

Kingston later hailed his players for their performance, saying they were yet to make a statement in the championship. In Group C, defending champions Tanzania, Kenya and Somalia were the other contenders. Tanzania and Somalia finished level on points and goal difference after drawing 1-1 and each recording a 2-0 victory over Kenya.
