The Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Emmy Ngabirano, today convened a community security dialogue (Baraza) in Kizinda Town Council, urging Local Council 1 (LC1) chairpersons to prioritize monthly village security meetings to curb rising crime.

During the dialogue, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ms. Phionah Sanyu, raised serious concerns over deteriorating hygiene and sanitation in the town council. A technical team report revealed that latrine coverage in the area stands at a dismal 65%, sparking mixed reactions and alarm among stakeholders. Shockingly, the report noted that some residents—particularly within the town center and Masya cell—resort to using polythene bags (buvera) for human waste disposal due to a lack of facilities. In response, Ms. Sanyu issued a directive ordering a massive enforcement campaign for latrine construction to kick off by Wednesday next week.

The Bushenyi District Chairperson, Mr. Prosper Twebaze, emphasized that because Kizinda is a bustling nightlife hub, local authorities must design a comprehensive plan to manage mounting garbage and protect the public from sanitation-related illnesses. Meanwhile, the Town Council Mayor, Hajji Semugabe, issued a stern warning to residents regarding predatory money lenders. The Mayor labeled unregulated lending as an emerging security threat, noting that many locals are facing aggressive extortion and losing their property to unscrupulous lenders.
