Mbarara City head coach Simon Mugerwa has urged fans to turn up in big numbers as the club hosts their first home game of the season against UPDF at Kakyeka Stadium on Friday.
Mugerwa, who will be taking charge of his first home game on the technical bench since signing with the Ankole Lions from Police FC, made the appeal after the team’s final training session on Thursday at Kakyeka.

He said the temporary permission from FUFA allowing Mbarara City to use Kakyeka for home matches came at the right time. The stadium had earlier been blacklisted by FUFA due to its dilapidated state, forcing the club to consider relocating to a new facility in Rwamwanja, Kamwenge District, about 150km from Mbarara.
In an equally upbeat mood, new signing and midfielder Ian Amanya welcomed the development, saying the clearance came just when both new and senior players were eager to showcase their readiness to the home fans.

Since July, the club management has been working on improving the stadium surface and the perimeter fence. Following a second inspection last week, FUFA acknowledged the progress and granted temporary clearance.
According to a letter issued to the club management on Wednesday, FUFA stressed that the clearance is subject to close supervision, beginning with the first home match on Friday.
Mbarara City opened their campaign with a 1–1 draw against Police FC last week, while UPDF lost 1–0 to Express FC.
