Mpigi – One person has been confirmed dead and six others injured following a fatal road crash that occurred on Sunday evening, May 25, 2025, at around 5:45 PM at Lwafumu Forest, along the Bunjako–Buwama road in Mpigi District.
According to preliminary police reports, the accident involved a Toyota Drone vehicle with registration number UBM 672G, whose driver is currently on the run. Investigations indicate that the vehicle was speeding and transporting passengers in a dangerously unsafe manner.

The overloaded vehicle lost control and overturned—killing one passenger instantly

The vehicle reportedly lost control, struck a pavement, and overturned—killing one passenger instantly and leaving six others with varying degrees of injuries. The injured were rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment. Police further revealed that this particular vehicle had earlier been flagged down by Uganda Police at Lungala checkpoint in Mpigi District. It was among four vehicles—including UBG 649K, UBM 631E, and UAR 351Z—that had been intercepted for multiple traffic violations, including:

  • Breach of operator’s licence
  • Carrying passengers in unsafe positions
  • Careless driving
  • Obscured registration plates

    Traffic police arrested other drivers

While drivers of the other vehicles were detained at Mpigi Police Station, the driver of UBM 672G defied police orders and failed to stop. In a public advisory, the Uganda Police Force strongly urged all motorists to comply with directives issued by traffic officers.
“What may appear to be an inconvenience could in fact be a critical, life-saving intervention,” the police noted in a statement.
