The Chief Magistrate's Court in Ibanda District has remanded a 29-year-old bodaboda rider, Johnson Nuwagaba, on charges of impersonation and fraud after he allegedly posed as an employee of the Office of the President.

Nuwagaba, a resident of Kawuku in Wakiso District, was arrested on June 15, 2026, in Ibanda after allegedly presenting himself at Ibanda Central Police Station as an official from the Office of the President with the intention of defrauding members of the public.

According to preliminary investigations, Nuwagaba, together with others still at large, allegedly uttered a false document and presented an identity card bearing his name, claiming it had been issued by the Office of the President. He is charged with uttering a false document, contrary to Section 328 of the Penal Code Act, Cap. 128, as well as impersonation.

Appearing before the Ibanda Chief Magistrate, Her Worship Agnes Nantaawo, Nuwagaba denied the charges.

State Attorney Joel Kakuru asked the court to remand the suspect, saying police investigations were still ongoing.

"The suspect is before court, but investigations into the matter are still ongoing," Kakuru submitted.

The Chief Magistrate granted the prosecution's request and remanded Nuwagaba to Nyabuhikye Government Prison until July 15, 2026.

"You will return to court on July 15, 2026, for further proceedings in this case," Nantaawo ruled.

According to the prosecution, Nuwagaba is jointly charged with other suspects still at large on allegations of fraud and impersonation, with intent to steal.
