COURT — A Sudanese national, Abdul Aziz Yousif Mohammad Adam, also known as Aziz, has been remanded by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretense in connection with a high-profile gold scam. The joint operation by the State House Anti-Graft Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) culminated in Aziz's arraignment on Tuesday evening. The court ordered his remand until November 28, 2024, pending further investigations.

Prosecutors allege that Aziz, in collusion with accomplices who remain at large, orchestrated a scheme between September and October 2024 in Kampala District. The group reportedly defrauded Dubai-based investor Osman Hussan of USD 650,000, approximately UGX 2.3 billion, by falsely claiming they would sell him gold.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter, vowing to apprehend other suspects linked to the scam. This case highlights ongoing efforts by Ugandan authorities to crack down on fraud and corruption.
The public is encouraged to support efforts to expose such schemes by reporting fraudulent activities under the #ExposeTheCorrupt campaign.
