Bukedea Comprehensive School has been approved to host this year’s edition of the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) games which will commence on August 16-27.

The approval came after the association's second and conclusive inspection of the facilities at the Bukedea based school alongside co-hosts Amus College, that happened over the weekend.

The first inspection that came mid July by the FEASSA executive led by President Justus Mugisha and general secretary David Ngugi left having guided the main host Bukedea Comprehensive School and co-host Amus college on what was to be done before the second visit that would guarantee the hosting rights.

And on Sunday July 21, FEASSA top brass all agreed letting the Bukedea based schools host the games for the progress they had made after the first inspection, was enticing.

Bukedea managing director Jonas Gumisiriza shows the inspection team the extent of the wok at some of the facilities.

“We are very impressed because we have been shown very many venues, we have also received assurance that even those that are not completed as of now, will be completed in the shortest time. We believe Uganda is ready and set to be the best host for the regional games,” Said FEASSA president Justus Mugisha.

In the same way, FEASSA general secretary David Ngugi expressed satisfaction on their second visit to the hosting venues.

“When constructing any structure, the finishing is always the most difficult because it is responsible for the beauty of the facility, I believe by the end of it all we shall enjoy using them. I would love to urge the hosts (Uganda) that test matches be held to confirm the readiness of the grounds before games are hosted.” Ngugu Said.

However, because not all facilities at both Bukedea and Amus are yet to be ready, the inspection team devised the Mbale City alternative where they inspected the city facilities to have an alternative in case some facilities in Bukedea are not readily available by the time of the games.

The visited Mbale City venues included Mbale municipal stadium, Mbale SS, Mbale Sports Club, Mbale Rugby Club Union grounds, Mbale Cricket Grounds, Mbale School of Health Sciences, Mbale School of Hygiene, Islamic University In Uganda, Mbale and Nakaloke T/C playgrounds.

At main hosts Bukedea, four new buildings have been put in place for accommodation for the girls including the accommodation facility at the new Bukedea teaching hospital that will accommodate the primary kids and special needs kids.

The work on the main stadium, the indoor arena and the swimming pool has almost competed for use while at Amus College, there is impressive accommodation and sanitation, 3-all-weather basketball courts and 4 grass football pitches while the fifth that will be the main stadium, has had the artificial turf laying to start this week.

The games that attract athletes from Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan and Uganda, compete in about 17 sports disciplines including football, mnetball, athletics, handball, volleyball, rugby, badminton, table tennis, tennis, hockey, basketball, among others, have hosts Uganda the defending champions.
