Bushenyi — Businessman Alhajj Hassan Basajjabalaba has been elected as the NRM Chairperson for Bushenyi District. The elections, held at Bushenyi Main Stadium, saw Basajjabalaba win with 580 votes. He defeated three other contenders: Cuthbert Tukundane, who garnered 3 votes; Nagasha Johnson, with 1 vote; and Tumusiime Richard, who received 13 votes.
Basajjabalaba used the moment to call for peace and teamwork. He urged all elected leaders to work together to ensure the party’s success in the 2026 general elections.
“Let us all work together as a team,” he said. “Even those who did not win should join us as we prepare for the next elections. The NRM needs all of us.”
The election also marked a moment of reconciliation. Basajjabalaba and Bushenyi Woman MP Hon. Annet Katusiime Mugisha ended their long-standing political disagreements and pledged to work together once again. The two had fallen out during the 2020–2021 general elections. At the time, Basajjabalaba supported former Minister Mary Karooro Okurut in the NRM primaries. When Annet Katusiime won the party flag, he did not support her, instead backing independent candidate Madinah Lukwago in the general election.
However, during the recent party elections, the two leaders agreed to put the past behind them for the good of the party. “We have reconciled to work together and support our party, the NRM, and the President,” said Hon. Annet Katusiime. “Our goal is to deliver over 90% of the vote for the President in the next elections.”
Hon. Annet Katusiime Mugisha was also elected NRM Vice Chairperson for Bushenyi District after defeating Faridah Mutambara.
