Yumbe District has been confirmed as the host for this year’s edition of the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) National Ball Games, scheduled to take place from August 25 to September 8.
According to William Bwambale, the selection of Yumbe over four other contenders was based on the district’s superior readiness, availability of accommodation, and quality of playing fields.

Bwambale urged all local government team officials, particularly sports officers, to organize their teams in time and ensure strong participation, just as they did during the Kids Athletics competitions held last month in Kabale.

For many teams—especially those from the western, eastern, and central regions—the long distance to Yumbe may pose a challenge. Additionally, the travel route has been altered due to ongoing repairs on the Karuma Bridge. Bwambale cautioned team officials to follow any travel advisories that may be issued if the bridge repairs are not completed by the time of the games.

The national primary school ball games will feature football, volleyball, netball, and handball competitions for both boys and girls.

The games will be preceded by the National Primary Schools FEASSA Qualifiers, which will take place in Kayunga from July 7 to 14 at a venue yet to be confirmed. During the qualifiers, teams will also compete in football, volleyball, netball, and handball for a chance to represent Uganda at the 2025 FEASSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya.

Last year, Uganda won nine gold medals to clinch the FEASSA Primary Schools title—mirroring the success of their secondary school counterparts, USSSA—at the games hosted at Bukedea Comprehensive School in Bukedea.
